If you ever find yourself overwhelmed by daily life, stepping outside for a moment can do wonders. Add a few mindful breaths, and that simple pause becomes grounding in a whole new way. Trust me, I used to overlook both. Now, letting nature and a few deep breaths reset me has become one of my favorite daily rituals. And with the view we have here, it’s easy to remember!
Why connect breathing and nature?
There’s just something about inhaling fresh air, feeling the breeze on your skin, and listening to the gentle sounds of the earth. Breathing exercises naturally slow the mind, helping you appreciate every sight and sound. It isn’t just about calming nerves—it’s about making a conscious connection with the world you are part of.
Three easy breathing exercises to try outside
- Box breathing:
Find a quiet spot. Inhale for four seconds, hold for four, exhale for four, then pause for another four. You can find a square shape around you (eg a window or a book) and trace the edges with your eyes as you count – this helps keep the mind quiet. Repeat this pattern, watching as the rhythm steadies both your breath and your mind.
- Nature noticing breath:
With each inhale, notice something new around you: the rustle of trees, a cloud’s shape, a patch of sunlight. Exhale slowly, letting your attention settle. It’s about tuning in, one breath at a time. How many things can you notice?
- Sighing breath:
Take a deep inhale, filling your chest. Then exhale with a long, audible sigh. Don’t be shy—let it be loud! This one often brings a smile (and sometimes a laugh) as you shake off tension. Like horses and animals do.
Invite the outdoors in
Our fast-paced lives can be overwhelming. Allow yourself to step away for a while.
Nature is always there, just a few steps outside your door. Paired with simple breathing, it becomes a portable retreat for busy minds.
We invite you to take that first breath—your senses (and maybe your soul) will thank you.
At Tula Vida, we see this every day—how the smallest pause with nature and breath creates space for clarity, calm, and joy. For more information and to design your own ideal retreat, book an exploration call and don’t forget to follow us on Instagram.
