Finding silence in a noisy world
Modern life is a symphony of constant notifications, deadlines, and distractions. We become so accustomed to the background noise that we forget what true quiet feels like. This overload does more than exhaust us—it muddies our thoughts, making it challenging to tune into our own needs. If we never hit pause, it’s almost impossible to discern what really matters versus what’s just static.
Mental clutter builds up like dust in a forgotten corner. Under all that, our inner voice gets fainter, and perhaps even lost. Slowing down and stepping away from the daily chaos isn’t just a luxury; it becomes a practical tool for our wellbeing. Clearing out the noise allows us to reconnect, to breathe, and to notice the subtleties of our own minds once again.
What if it is possible to feel better just by arriving in the right place?
What if it isn’t years of away, or hard, painful, difficult to find?
Nature as a guide to clarity
There’s something universal about stepping into green spaces: the way our shoulders drop, our breath deepens. In the Costa Rican rainforest, or among gently grazing horses, the mind shifts. The natural world has its own rhythm, so different from the hurried tempo of the city. Here, you don’t have to try to relax. The concerns and to-do lists start to dissolve, replaced by the gentle sensations of sun, breeze, and birdsong. Without you even noticing how or why, you just feel better, you feel like you belong.
Sally and Eric – the founders of Tula Vida – live immersed in this world for a reason. Their busy minds, active to-do lists and dreams of new projects used to take over their lives. Now they have a constant reminder, a toucan at the window, a horse face in the doorway – that nature thrives without striving or rushing. That there is nothing wrong with “busy” but – if it takes over (and it tries to) without ever allowing a pause – it leads to exhaustion, apathy, overwhelm.
The land here isn’t just a beautiful backdrop for reflection—it’s a catalyst for clarity. When we immerse ourselves in it, our senses awaken. Suddenly, we’re able to notice small details, from the rustling leaves to the warmth of a horse’s breath, and in these moments, our worries seem to shrink. Bit by bit, space opens up for perspective and insight. This is how the sanctuary of Tula Vida was born, and it is available to everyone with just one decision….including you….
Horses: partners in mindfulness
Horses are more than companions—they are intuitive guides to the present moment. These sensitive creatures notice what is happening right now, not weighed down by yesterday or tomorrow. Spending time with them encourages us to do the same. Simply being near a horse among the trees, you find yourself tuning in, paying attention in new ways, and practicing presence without even trying. Mindfulness with Masters.
This unique partnership helps quiet internal noise and judgments. Horses respond to authenticity – you are safer and more trustworthy if you aren’t pretending to be something you’re not, and they can sense every tense muscle or racing thought – inviting us to drop our masks and become more aware of our own emotional landscape. Through their gentle company we learn to listen deeply, not just to the world around us, but also to ourselves.
When your horse partner looks at you, moves in for a scratch or follows you wherever you go, it feels like the best gift you can receive – being truly seen and accepted just as you are.
Taking the first step toward clarity
Why are we writing about this? We hear a lot of people saying they just wish they knew what they wanted (moving to Costa Rica is not for everyone!) and we want to make clarity feel more possible.
The path to greater clarity doesn’t begin with finding the answers—it begins with making space for them to emerge. That often means stepping away—physically and mentally—from the routines and pressures that crowd our thoughts. In a state of stress or pressure, you literally do not have access to the creative or opportunity-focused part of the brain. You stay in survival mode.
Nature, and the company of animals attuned to their environment, offers that space. With each step into the forest or moment in a field, we rediscover what it feels like to simply be.
From that stillness, clarity blossoms. Questions that seemed overwhelming become approachable, and ideas begin to feel less forced. At Tula Vida, we know you have the answers inside yourself. So what we offer is the invitation to pause, recharge, and rediscover your own compass, guided gently and supported strongly by nature and our wise, four-legged friends.
